THE LONG TERM GOAL

In my last write up, I began to explain the different classes of goals you must set in your path to achievement. I called them the "Short term goals and the Long term goals". I also explained succinctly what short term goals entailed. Now, I want to take you through my discovery about long term goals and how to go about setting them.

I discovered also that there are goals we have over a long period of time. These goals extend for quite a long range. It talks about series of plans made towards achieving a definite vision. For example, a student’s long term goal could be graduating as the best in is class. The student will then make a series of small term goals. What I am trying to say is that, often times, series of small term goals are usually set to achieve a long term goal. You therefore need a long term goal to be able to make the best out of your short term goals.

While studying history, I saw that people without long term goals (some call this vision) end up achieving less than people with long term goals. In fact, in some setting, young men without a long term goal are categorized as the NFAs (no future ambition). Without a long term goal, your future isn’t certain, you become a victim of whatever life has to offer you.

History showed that those who the world reckoned with were those who have something to offer the world in a goal-like manner. So dear reader, I would advise that you set your long term goal now and refuse to be a victim of uncertain and unplanned future.

In my research, I discover that some people really want to set long term goals but they do not know how to go about it, so I am going to run you through on what you need to watch out for when setting a long term goal.

You see, goals should be targeted towards growth, therefore you need to find a way to set your goals in the dimensions of growth. There are six broad dimensions I would want to emphasize. When you focus on these six dimensions of growth, you would have created a great long term goal. I will be taking each of these areas gradually. For this writeup, I will talk about long term goals in relation to Family and Home

FAMILY AND HOME
Any goal achieved that doesn’t give room for the expression of human family will make us inhuman. While setting your goals, you need to consciously place the family first after God. Your first and most important long term goal should lead to the fulfillment of the human family. This is because any other achievement that does not take into account that of the family will not really feel like an accomplishment. Therefore, simply put, your long term goals should give room for the promotion and development of your family.

Also, it has been observed that families with a joint family goal achieve a lot more as a family than families without a collective goal. Having a joint collective goal will create bond and unity of accomplishment among family member, hence giving each member of the family a sense of belonging.

Families lacking a collective goal on the other hand are often not so united and the bond between them isn’t usually as strong as families with collective goals. One of the major secrets to create peace in a dividing home is to give them a collective goal. They working together to achieve such goals will bring back to them bond and unity, hence peace. This is because most likely, the center piece mixing in such home is the collective goals and once the center holds, things will fall in place and every member of the family will begin to act in the best interest of the goal and invariably, of the family.

I therefore challenge you today to set a long term goal with your family/home and see yourself give expression to the achiever in you.

Join me in my next writeup as I take you through other areas where you must set long term goals.
